70th Wirral Festival of Music, Speech and Drama 2019

Thanks to everyone who took part, attended or supported our festival this year.
Our 70th Festival went very well and I am pleased to report we had a bumper number of entries for Music this year, 361 and many of these had entered multiple classes. More choirs and orchestras entered this year than previous years which was brilliant. It took some organisation, but all seemed to go well with additional marshals employed! The new class of “Singer/Song Writer” launched last year had double the numbers of entries this year. We are lucky to have this class sponsored by Wirral Arts Society and their Chair presented the cup to the winner. The talent on display in the piano and solo classes was good and in some cases outstanding!

The Wirral Mayor and the Lady Mayoress thoroughly enjoyed their visit, and in particular the young solo classes along with the piano classes.

Speech and Drama entries had also increased slightly too, although it would be good if we could attract more entries. In total we had 153 entries some children entering multiple classes. The introduction of a new class “Musical Drama” was popular. In the “Stand up and Entertain us” class which we introduced last year entries doubled. We are very fortunate that both these classes are sponsored with cups and cash prizes by Mid Wirral Rotary and The Olivia Rae Foundation.

As a committee we are always thinking of new ways to attract more children and adults by introducing new classes and projecting a fresh, dynamic look. We have launched our new image which can be seen on the website and on all our literature going forwards. Roll on 2020 for a festival as equally successful as the one we have just had.

New classes in the Music Festival will include:-

  • Musical Hall
  • Disney Song
  • Gilbert and Sullivan Solo

Dates for 2020 are:-
Speech and Drama 21st March
Music 27th and 28th March
